My books are your books
February 21, 2008 by frujch
Today’s the day we launch frujch as an official BookCrossing Zone!
Being the booknerds that we are, we were extremely excited when we found out about BookCrossing(BXing). It was a little confusing to grasp in the beginning, but once we realise what it was, the light in our heads went on with with a resounding “DING!” This was something we HAD to bring to SMU.
Because we are of great faith that there are many of you out there who are as equally enamoured on books as we are. Now’s the chance to share those books and let others share theirs with you! It’s FREE, it’s CONVENIENT (after all, you do have to come to campus right?) and it’s lovely to find someone that shares the same tastes as you.
What IS BookCrossing(BXing)?
Wikipedia - the lazy man’s 5 sec know-it-all guide - defines it as “the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise”. This ingenious idea was pioneered by BookCrossing.com, a free online book club which began and encouraged the practice.
Their goal?
To “make the whole world a library”.“
So, what if….
…..you want a book(s)?
Just come down to frujch (or any BookCrossing Zones) and pick up any book you take a fancy to! Once you do that, you will see there is a BXing label with a number of it. Simply log onto the website and state that you have “caught” this book. Once you have read it, you can “release”(leave it somewhere!) it again and if you want, write a review for the book.
…..you want to bookcross your book(s)?
If you have no clue, bring them down and we’ll help you out! Don’t worry about the procedure or the labels, we’ll guide you through the former and we’ll provide the latter.
To make this work..
-
Please do register the book with BookCrossing.com when you pick it up. If not, we won’t know where our book went!
-
Do bring your books to bookcross with others! If not, the shelf will run out of books very soon!
Which books are on our shelf?
Go to our bookshelf page (http://bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/frujch) and click on “ALL BOOKS” (mid-page, left).
There’s The Rule of Four, Zadie Smith’s The Autograph Man, Tracy Chevalier’s The layd and the Unicorn, Terry Pratchett and more!

So digging this. The other proper Book Crossing zone I know of is the one across the street but like who goes there right? I’m gonna drop some books off next week or something. No wait, after break week.
